POFC Provides BendSafe™ Optical Fiber for Light Peak Technology
Prime Optical Fiber Corp. (POFC, TSE:2496), a leading supplier of optical fiber based in Science Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, today acknowledged that its BendSafe™ fiber has been used in Intel’s newly-introduced Light Peak solution and was demonstrated in the recent Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in September.
POFC BendSafe™ fiber is based on unique 3M Glass/Glass/Polymer (GGP) technology and has a long history of success in demanding consumer applications with proven customer satisfaction. BendSafe™ fiber has 20 percent less bending stress than conventional optical fibers, allowing it to be used in tightly bended industrial environments and can be operated at a bend radius of less than 0.2-inch (0.5cm) for more than twenty (20) years without failure.
"POFC is pleased to be one of the participants in the Light Peak ecosystem. The high performance BendSafe™ fiber can fit into small and curved spaces within IT hardware, devices and gadgets, allowing optical I/O protocols to become universal in computing, communications and consumer electronics applications. The convergence appears to be accelerating rapidly.” said Robert Chiang, President of POFC.
