HD in Your Life

At present, almost all broadband subscribers
use copper based technology, such as xDSL
and cable modem, or wireless based
technology. Outside the data center, the fiber
optics penetration rate is less than 10% in
last-mile applications. If a user wishes
simultaneously to surf web pages, download
songs, send and receive photographs, and
watch streaming video with HD quality, then
the bandwidth provided by today’s cable
modems, xDSL and wireless services is
probably not sufficient.
Communication Networks

Ever since fiber optics was invented in the
1960s, it has increasingly become the medium of
choice in communication networks. Optical fiber
outperforms copper in bandwidth, transmission
distance, noise immunity, and power consumption,
making it superior to copper across a broad range of
applications. In the past 30 years, fiber optics has
replaced nearly all telecommunication copper links,
whether in long distance switches, central
offices or subscriber loop carriers, with
connection to the home being the one exception until
now. CATV companies have also followed in the ...
Fiber Toughening Mechanism

Modern-day applications for optical fiber require
mechanical properties well beyond the requirements
for conventional optical fiber, whose main application
is in long distance telecommunication and where
optical performance alone has always been the main
priority...
